The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES), Capital Facilities, Building Design and Construction Division-Public Private Partnerships Branch is seeking an engineer or architect project manager who is a highly motivated team player and is able to work in a fast-paced collaborative team environment to provide outstanding customer service to using agencies and project stakeholders for the design and construction of public facility projects countywide.
The Building Design and Construction Division is responsible for implementing all building, and major renovation projects identified in the Fairfax County Capital Improvement Program, including fire and police stations, libraries, courts, office buildings, human service facilities, maintenance facilities, parking structures and other major infrastructure and public-private partnership projects.

Key Responsibilities:
Provides project management for a wide variety of capital improvement projects including feasibility studies, master plans and the design and construction of new facilities and major renovations from concept through project close-out.Manages and negotiates professional architectural and engineering design contracts, reviews design plans and specifications, and assures projects are executed within established budgets and schedules.Assists with land acquisition of properties for public use.Leads the design team through zoning approvals and provides presentations to the Planning Commission or the Board of Supervisors.Coordinates using agency requirements and county standards into the design of public facilities.Serves as a primary point of contact with using agencies, regulatory authorities, and other Fairfax County agencies as required.Works as a professional who is computer proficient, including use of project management software, spreadsheets, writing software, and internet use to conduct research for construction costs, products, codes, and other topics as necessary.Stays abreast of technical codes, safety regulations, and industry guidelines.Provides leadership by promoting communication, teamwork, and collaboration within their projects, the Division, and other agencies inside and outside Capital Facilities.
Minimum Qualifications:Graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor’s degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus, four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering or architectural field. Possession of a valid Virginia Professional Engineer or Architect license is required.

Certificates and Licenses Required:
Driver’s License.Virginia Professional Engineer or Architect license.
If the selected candidate is licensed in another state, they are required to obtain a Virginia PE or RA license through the reciprocity process within twelve (12) months of the award letter date as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ProjectValue Engineering knowledge and certificationKnowledge of Sustainability and Green Building design/construction, including LEED
Physical Requirements:
Ability to hear and properly respond to typical construction alarms and verbal warnings on active construction sites.Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.Ability to produce organized and legible handwritten, typed/computer generated documents including the use of graphics.Must be able to physically negotiate rough terrain and typical construction sites to perform field inspections at project construction sites or potential sites for future facilities.
Special Requirements: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background investigation and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
Note: This is a part-time position and may not exceed 1,560 hours per calendar year. Individuals in these positions are eligible for limited employee benefits, including medical, vision and dental insurance coverage, and participation in flexible spending programs, but are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.
