This is No BS Job Search Advice Radio and I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. LinkedIn, of course, is an incredible tool. It’s imperfect.
I’ll simply say it takes work to make it a really useful tool for yourself. On this show, I talk with you about an advanced strategy, one that’s designed to expand your network, particularly when you’re targeting a firm to get a job with. So, using this strategy will go a long way toward helping you get entree and information at one of these firms that you’re targeting.

Here’s a great strategy for your networking on LinkedIn, for you to be able to target organizations that can work for you. Let’s say there’s a firm that you’ve identified as one that you want to be involved with.
And, yes, you know of people within LinkedIn who you can network with. Now, here’s the fun thing. Go to their company page.
And, yes, you’re going to find out a lot of information about that firm. But I want you to look in the right-hand column, scroll down and look at this section called People Also Viewed. Because what you’re going to find is firms that are similar to it that might be able to use skills like yours.
And when you click that page, you’re going to be able to find individuals who you’re in network with or connected with, I should say, who already work for that firm, who you can network with in order to find out more about that organization, get entry into that organization, target that firm. When all is said and done, people only have . . . you probably only have . . . I know I only probably have a finite amount of knowledge and conscious knowledge of relationships within particular firms. And to expand that knowledge, I need to go to people beyond the ones I might consciously think of all the time.
And that’s where this particular function works so well. Because it takes you to firms similar to the ones that you already know, shows you who you already know within those organizations, and lets you do networking. So, again, go to the company page of a firm you know.
In the right-hand column, scroll down and look at people who view this company also looked at or some language to that effect. And go to those firms and see who you’re connected with at those organizations. So, that’s today’s show.
