This is about creating something from the ground up that will shape our community’s infrastructure for decades to come.As the Construction Inspector/Senior Engineer Technician for Public Works Capital Projects, you will:Be the eyes and ears of quality assurance on diverse construction projects, ensuring every public facility, park, and utility improvement meets the highest standards through hands-on inspection of both vertical and horizontal construction projects.Lead complex multi-stakeholder coordination on active construction sites, managing relationships between public and private utilities, contractors, other county departments, residents, and the general public to ensure seamless project delivery.Take ownership of project documentation and compliance creating the official record of construction progress through daily tracking, progress photography, and detailed quality assurance documentation that protects public investment.Bridge the gap between design and reality by interpreting contract plans and specifications in the field, making real-time recommendations for revisions, and ensuring constructability while maintaining compliance with county standards and regulations.Serve as the public face of construction projects in your community, responding to technical questions from residents, coordinating and ensuring public safety throughout the construction process.Shape the future of county infrastructure by contributing to pre-construction planning, utility coordination, quality control reviews, and applying lessons learned from previous projects to continuously improve construction standards. What you bring: 
Technical Foundation: Associate’s degree in engineering or related field, providing the analytical and technical knowledge base essential for complex construction inspection and quality assurance.Hands-On Construction Experience: Minimum 5 years of related engineering or construction experience, with deep understanding of both vertical construction (buildings, renovations, roofing) and horizontal construction (utilities, stormwater, paving).Proven Leadership Skills: At least 1 year of experience leading crews or serving as technical project lead, demonstrating your ability to coordinate teams and manage complex construction activities.Field Inspection Expertise: Experience with contract compliance monitoring on public works projects, including knowledge of construction trades, materials testing, and quality control procedures.Documentation and Communication Excellence: Strong skills in progress tracking, record keeping, and technical communication with diverse stakeholders from contractors to community members.Safety and Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of federal, state, and local construction standards and regulations, with ability to ensure consistent compliance across multiple project types.Public Works Project Experience: Preferred background in contract compliance monitoring, utility coordination, and managing the unique challenges of construction.Please note: Relevant work experience demonstrating required knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for educational requirements.  Work experience is essential and cannot be replaced by additional education.OTHER POSITION RELATED INFORMATION

The successful incumbent must obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s License prior to hire and maintain a satisfactory driving record as outlined in the Kitsap County Vehicle Use Policy.Prior to employment, the successful candidate must:  Submit official transcripts from an accredited college or university or business school, if education is being used to meet the minimum qualifications.Pass all job-related examinations/tests necessary to demonstrate required knowledge, skills and abilities, as determined by the hiring authority at time of job posting.Authorize and complete a criminal background check.
