Heather and Peyton – Thriving in the Midst of a Pandemic

Heather Meeks has navigated through the tumultuous year that was 2020 and proven that with a little hard work and perseverance, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. In the fall semester, she accomplished a 3.4 GPA while taking 15 credit hours. Quite the accomplishment on a “normal year,” but throw a global pandemic in the mix, and you have something special!

Heather shares, “Covid has made things difficult, but I’m still learning and forever grateful for that. It will be hard, but so worth it.” To many, the word hard would accurately describe the college experience, but for Heather, she’s not referring to just classes. Heather’s daughter Payton has experienced medical issues requiring two separate airway surgeries that have added to a single parent’s already full plate. Heather notes that Payton is better now and that everything she has set out to accomplish is for her daughter, noting that “no matter how hard it gets, we will get through it!” Heather currently gives back by volunteering for Court Appointed Special Advocates of Pope County. She hopes as we see the end of this pandemic, she can help more.

Heather is set for another fully loaded academic year as she ventures into the spring semester of 2021. She is enrolled in an 18-hour course load that fulfills a large portion of the required classes in her field of study. If Heather’s recent success tells us anything, it’s that she will knock this semester out of the park!
