High School Juniors Are Almost High School Seniors
Current high school juniors in the spring each year should be ready to apply for scholarships as seniors as soon as they qualify!
As current high school seniors wrap up their senior year by taking AP tests, making final college decisions, and planning graduation activities, juniors can practically taste their senior year.
In the college scholarship department, this means that scholarships specifically open to high school seniors starting college in the fall are still out there, and seniors need to keep applying.
Today’s juniors (rising seniors) need to get ready to apply for awards open to high school seniors in the fall.
NOTE: Most summer scholarships will be referring to students who have just graduated or are about to graduate. (Class of 2025) Read the guidelines for each award, though, because they all have different eligibility rules. What juniors can do now as a rising senior is to work on a list of scholarships that will open up to them in the fall, when they have started their senior year. They can also apply for scholarships currently open to high school juniors.
Here are important guidelines for today’s juniors who will be official high school seniors in the fall:
- Put together a scholarship resumemaking sure to include any leadership positions and volunteer service
- Ask teachers for letters of recommendation before school gets out for the summer
- Check out or purchase scholarship listing books from the library like this one.
- Talk with parents about college costs and where the money is going to come from
- Find scholarships with early fall deadlines and start writing essays
- Order your copies of the How to Win College Scholarships ebooks and learn how to apply SMART for each scholarship that is submitted
Don’t wait until ANY scholarship deadlines have passed!
Be ready and remember the 5 P’s:
