No BS Career Advice: May 18, 2025

“Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.” – Harriet Beecher Stowe

For Mother’s Day, my wife and I did a road trip to the Northeast to see her Mom in NJ, her extended family meeting in Connecticut, and then our son in Vermont. His job started up again the week before at the resort he works for, and he could not come down for Mother’s Day in Connecticut, so we went to him and met him for brunch in Woodstock, VT. It is a cute town and the two hours with him were great, but when we left we began a 17-hour drive back to Asheville, NC. We stayed overnight in Hagerstown and met one of her cousins for breakfast before finishing the drive with a stop in West Virginia to have a leaking tire repaired (We drove over a nail that caused the leak) and a stop in Johnson City, TN for dinner to get out of an awful downpour. Happy to be home!

The skills needed to find a job are different from those needed to do a job. You may be great at what you do, but job hunting, especially during difficult times is very different than being a good employee.
